According to a google search “paralepsis” is a rhetorical and literary device used to emphasize a point by deliberately pretending to pass over or omit it. By stating that they will “not mention” a subject, the speaker or writer actually draws direct, often ironic, attention to it. This sort of writing prompt operates along those lines. By writing about something you didn’t see or didn’t think or don’t want to share, you reverse into the free-flowing writing slot. Enough preamble and explanation. The prompt is: “What I didn’t see today.” Write for 10 minutes; make a list.
