Produce

Go to the kitchen and grab three items from your produce drawer or bowl. Write a fast haiku about each one, using this formula:

  • 5 syllables capturing something about the time of day or the season or the weather

  • 7 syllables capturing the shape, color, texture, name of the object

  • 5 syllables that are oblique — a random thought, a noise, a scent, something your cat is doing, anything you notice in the room

Give yourself a maximum of two minutes to write each haiku. Don’t overthink it.
