Hike: Bunny Flat RT via Vista Trail

In my “journal ecosystem” is a book dedicated to notes about hikes I’ve done. It is far from a complete accounting. I write something about maybe one out of five hikes. Still, it’s worth doing. And I want to do more. Here’s an entry from 9.24.25.

On Mount Shasta: Bunny Flat to Broadway to the Bench to Vista Trail to Horse Camp and back to Bunny Flat. Five stars!!!

The idea was to squeeze in a good workout. I had a meeting and we had limited time. So I humped hard — up and down. Of course, the handyman was way ahead of me. I stopped often to normalize my breathing, using a breath-slowing technique. I used my hiking poles. I felt strong and capable. Do more of this!

We encountered no one from the start of the Broadway Trail until we got to Horse Camp. A perfect blue-sky autumn day with ideal temperatures. Walking up that big ridge inside the huge trees, everything falling away as you climb. A cotillion of orange butterflies flowed in the opposite direction — down the mountain — constant. So light and bright and pretty. Sailing through the trees. What a sight to behold.
